about us

Ruth Jackson
Founder & CEO

Ruth is the founder of Bluebell and was motivated to set it up as she experienced antenatal and post-natal depression herself whilst living in London. Prior to setting up Bluebell, Ruth worked as a fundraising & communications professional for a range of national charities including Barnardo’s & Rethink. Her early career was spent in the ‘Ab-Fab’ PR agency world, followed by some very happy years at the Science Museum, London, where she met her husband whilst organising an event for Bill Gates! Ruth’s role involves trying to raise lots of money so that Bluebell can help even more mums, dads and families.

Rachel Jenkins
Occupational Therapist & Group Leader

We're very lucky to have Rachel as the supportive group leader of Bluebell's Mums' Comfort Zone. With her qualification as an Occupational Therapist she brings professional expertise to the group, together with first hand experience of postnatal depression. Rachel has two sons and lived in London before moving to Bristol with her family. She is also an accomplished musician. Her work has been so well received that we now have other plans for her too, so watch this space!

Emma Peyton
Crèche Leader

We are delighted to have Emma as our new Crèche Leader, especially as she has worked with children and families for over 20 years. She has spent time as an Early Years teacher , Child-minder and most recently as a Family Support Worker in a Children's Centre. Emma can also offer advice on breastfeeding and has two daughters of her own.

Paula Bentley
Bluebell Buddy & Group Co-facilitator

Paula is our Bluebell Buddy for the central area of Bristol and will be co-facilitating the Mums' Comfort Zone group sessions held at St Paul's Nursery and Children's Centre. She offers mums who attend the group, the option of further help during the week and will also extend support to mums in the community, for whom attending a group is not currently viable. Paula has worked as a solicitor for many years and is now training to teach Pilates. She has experienced post-natal illness herself and has a young son.

Hannah Newport
Bluebell Buddy & Group Co-facilitator

Hannah is our Bluebell Buddy in South Bristol. Her role is to offer 1:1 support to mums struggling with depression related to pregnancy and birth. When a mum is referred for support, either by a health professional or the mum herself, Hannah will arrange to visit and discuss with mums which kind of targeted support will be most helpful for them. Hannah had postnatal depression herself when she had her son and can relate to how mums might be feeling throughout their PND and recovery.

Lisa Straccia
Group Co-facilitator

Lisa helps to facilitate the Mums’ Comfort Zone Group in Henbury. She has two small children and lived experience of postnatal illness. She is also currently studying for a Level 2 certificate in Community Development.

Louis Dunn
Dads’ Worker.

Louis is our Dads’ Worker. He will run Bluebell’s new Facebook page Dads in Mind and offer 1:1 support to dads experiencing depression/anxiety related to their new role as a parent. As a dad of 1 himself, with lived experience of managing mental ill health, Louis is really keen to give fathers the opportunity to have their voices heard too!

Anna Thompson
Project Manager

Anna has been involved with Bluebell from the outset in her role as our Project Manager. She now oversees many of the logistics of Bluebell’s Mums’ Comfort Zone groups in the Bristol area and as we grow, tries to keep us organised! She has 2 ‘grown up’ children and has previously worked in further education as an In Class Support Worker and whilst in London at BSkyB and the BBC. Anna volunteered for a long time at Homestart and makes unusual jewellery.

Emily Loveday

Emily Loveday is our freelance fundraiser and has been working hard for Bluebell since 2011 writing applications with great success! Emily lives in Gloucestershire with her husband and 2 young children which alongside her work for Bluebell, fundraising for other charities and jewellery designing in her spare time, keeps her pretty busy!

everyone sharing their problems and people listening to each other.
