The Antenatal Yoga Experience

Today I had the pleasure of taking part in one of our antenatal yoga classes, run by the lovely Gladey who has over 10 years of teaching experience. Gladey is passionate about working with women, and the benefits that yoga can bring for both physical and mental health.

 

 

Yoga can be an incredibly positive and healthy practice to adopt during pregnancy. At Bluebell we recognise that during those special months, it can also be a time of mixed emotions; it can be exhausting, challenging and for a lot of expectant mums a time of low mood and/or anxiety.Yoga is proven to promote relaxation and can help alleviate feelings of depression and anxiety. It can also help provide relief from common pregnancy complaints such as back pain or insomnia.

The class is a small group, pre-booked only, held at Bluebell Place. Gladey takes a few minutes to welcome and check-in with all the mums and promotes a nurturing supportive environment. The class is suitable for all capabilities and the focus is on movements that support both physical and emotional well-being.Yoga is a great tool for supporting the accelerated changes your body experiences during pregnancy. Gladey will guide you through each move and teach you safe healthy ways in which to stretch your muscles and strengthen your body.Antenatal yoga can also be a lovely opportunity for a weekly check-in, to not only look after yourself but help promote and build a connection with your growing baby. A lot of the moves and mindful breathing Gladey teaches can also be useful tools to bring with you into the labour room to support you during delivery.

Each class ends with a relaxation exercise. Gladey makes sure each mum is comfortable and using a combination of music, breathing and mindfulness guides you into a deep state of relaxation leaving you ready to face the rest of your day and week feeling calmer, stronger and more energised. If you are interested in booking onto one of our classes please get in touch with our office on… Classes are held every Tuesday 12-1pm, term time only.
